How to glue rubber: Basic instructions

Gluing rubber is very much like gluing any other material. Here are the basic instructions for using super glue to glue rubber together.

  1. Surface preparation. Ensure that the surfaces you want to bond are clean, dry, and free of grease or oils. Use rubbing alcohol to remove any residue.
  2. Always pre-fit the pieces before applying adhesive.
  3. Apply a small amount of super glue to one surface.
  4. Press the parts together and hold them in place for 15–30 seconds until the glue sets.
  5. Allow to cure fully.  Leave the item undisturbed until the glue fully sets. In most cases, allow 24 hours for full strength.
  6. Clean up immediately. Remove any excess wet adhesive with a damp paper towel or cloth. Dried adhesive can be carefully removed with a sharp blade.

Work in a well-ventilated area with adequate lighting, and make sure to wear nitrile gloves as well as safety glasses when working with adhesives.
